Jamal HD plans to meet fans expectations with HDMI

(Houston, Texas)-Local Houston artist Jamal HD hopes that his third mixtape “HDMI” will be the album that puts him over the top. While his first two mixtape albums Sinthusis and Mixtape with the Kung Fu Grip led the way for him to gain attention on the underground hip hop circuit, Jamal HD hopes that HDMI will be the stone that is thrown and shatter what he considers to be a glass ceiling for talented musicians.

“Since I first started, I have dealt with messy promoters, shady record labels that really are just a group of guys with a microphone and producers who really don’t have talent. It’s a learning experience and HDMI is more of a mature and polished record than the first two. With HDMI I want to take not only my creativity but my ability to entertain my fans. I would never want my fans to feel like I’m not giving them what they want. I think that a lot of talented cats just get over looked because they not rocking with certain sets or following the pop theme of today.  I want my music to be something those 20 years from now, it is still relevant.-Jamal HD

Regis Prograis, the 2010 Southeast Texas Champion made easy work of his opponent Carl Almirol in the opening round. Almirol a late substitution came prepared and landed two effective hand rights before Prograis was able to quickly adjust and Knockout Almirol by a counter over hand right.

Cruz before opening bell

Pablo Cruz also making his pro debut made very easy work of Daniel Sanchez by opening the first round with a strong left hook to the temple of Sanchez that stunned him. Cruz followed up with a strong right and left hook and was able to dismantle Sanchez with in the opening round.

The co-main event Kimo Rigmaiden of Katy, Texas was upset by Houston local Tyrone Shelders when he was dropped twice in the opening round by two hook-upper cut combinations that left Rigmaiden dazed and unable to continue in the first round. Shelders improved to 9-2 with 6 KOs.

Hernandez and Cruz

Hernandez 6’6 was able to keep Collins at bay with excellent jabs and counter rights. Collins who was able to land hooks to the body, was frustrated by the taller Hernandez who had a substantial reach and picked from the outside. Local Houston Rapper draws inspiration for classical art

At the Museum of Fine Art in Houston, Texas on a Saturday afternoon many Houstonians come to visit not only the attractions but also the calm atmosphere. Jamal HD is here today to view the limited showing of the treasures of the Pharaoh Tutankhamen and other Pharaohs. He admires not only the historical craftsmanship of the pieces but the relevance that it still holds centuries later in today's technological world.

“I feel art and music go hand in hand. You have to create something if you an artist. 700 years from now whatever I create today may be important and one song could leave my legacy to the whole world. Do you think when Leonardo (Da Vinci) painted the Mona Lisa, he knew that it would hold the significance that it has now.  None of us have seen him, but we know he was a creative genius. How many times did he have to repaint and edit his works before he had a perfect final?

Jamal HD has been putting the finishing touches on his third mixtpae HDMI and goes to various museums to draw not only his motivation but a strong determination to leave creations that he feels will last through the ages.
.
“Whether art is given through a song, statute or painting, each form brings out serious emotions to different individuals. Just like if your ever attended a exhibit and there's a group of people describing a piece down to science, and you over there like what are they talking about, That's how it is with  music lovers and a genre some will get it some will not. One artist that is growing on me a lot is Gerhard Richter. This guy early in his career couldn't sell one piece now his work is being auction off for $200 million. That's crazy. Some critics are pushing him to icon level similar to Picasso. Of course I'm a fan of others like Andy Warhol, Monet, Giacometti and Rothko. I know the first day I buy a nice big house it will be packed with so much art. You have to have a strong appreciation for the creativity that they had.”

Fighter credits his wife and mother for his success

When someone mentions the word “boxing” to you, what comes to your mind first? If you ask any one who has ever climbed into the ring, they may tell you: Boxing gloves, a squared ring, black eyes  or  maybe even the mental highlights of the movie series “Rocky”. Some remember the past greats such as Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson or Evander Holyfield.
For Houston, Texas native Pablo Cruz who is training to make his pro debut April 28th, when you mention boxing to him his first thought is his wife.

“I was interested in boxing at first for only the cardio and conditioning. When I was younger I liked boxing, but I didn’t love it.” Cruz excludes while he takes a break from hitting the target mitts at the Savannah Boxing Gym on a unusually hot March Saturday.  “I had always wanted to box since I saw Oscar versus Chavez, but didn’t have the dedication it took to be good. One day my brother told me a gym was nearby where we played soccer and I enrolled just to get extra conditioning.” He cracks a somewhat malevolent smile as he finishes the statement.

“It (Boxing) was easy for me. It seemed as if I could just do it without the effort that I saw others force out. I would eat some papusa then literally five minutes later be tagging guys in the ring when we sparred. I shouldn’t have been eating before training but I just wasn’t dedicated like I should have been.”

Cruz a 2011 Salvador National amateur Champion and a participant for Olympic trials says that it took the encouragement and support from two women. “my Mother and my wife actually are the reason I’m going professional and dedicated myself to boxing the last few years.

“They just believed I was good enough to compete and make it. A lot of people believe in you when they see dollar signs or just to say something positive, but they truly believed in me.  I almost quit when my son was born, but Vanessa (His wife) didn’t let me. I was a amateur and she didn’t want me to quit. My mother felt the same way. There had been so many ups and so many downs but they have been there.

He cracks the malevolent smile again when the gym speakers begin to play “Triumph” by the Wu-Tang Clan. He is a fan and begins to move his head to the beat. “Whenever I slacked off my wife would say “without focus you won’t go far, stay on what your eyes is aiming at.”

Napoleon: A legend continues

About  nine months ago we were sent a Tweet concerning a young musician asking that our team check out his YouTube video called "Quarintine". The artist then unknown to us artist named Napoleon Da Legend. we have always been a big fan of  creative talent in the music industry because a well crafted song can endure the years of a culture's change and progress that the future brings to it. this particular randomly delivered video was one that the content will have a significance to the listeners of hip-hop 5,10, or 15 years from now.

Talent and creativity can never be measured by platinum or gold records or the numbers of followers on Twitter. we had the pleasure of having Napoleon answer a couple of questions concerning his hip hop career.

What made you start getting into music?
Music was always around growing up. At the crib, there was always something playing, whether on TV or on the radio or on the stereo system. The music never stopped. I would be hawking the radio and making my little personal mix-tapes before the age of 10. Never had it crossed my mind at that point that I would even be involved in making music myself. It’s not like I knew what a studio was or even the process of actually making a song in any genre at a young age. It wasn’t until I seen some of my friends at school record their songs on 4 tracks or karaoke machines that I even fathomed the thought of even writing or spitting a rhyme. It blew my mind when my boys made me hear a tape of my homie Matador and he was spitting on an instrumental and it was sounding dope. Some of my other homies got into it and they formed a group. At that point, I told them “I want in”, maybe only had one rhyme to my name at that point. My boy let me borrowed a karaoke machine and I was copping these 99 cent singles with the instrumentals from Sam Goodie or whatever else. It was over then, I just started penning rhymes and recording myself from that point. Then naturally, seeing others on the television set and hearing them on the radio. I had never seen a live show at that point, our ambition told us we could be there too, we can do that too. You know, so from there you keep creating, you keep sharpening and you find ways to be heard. It’s just that love you have for it, which, before you even know it, grows into a passion. I think the passion came quick though, I was absorbed into rhyming since high school. I didn’t know what I was doing or what I was getting myself into, I just wanted to do it. When there’s a will there’s always a way, that phrase is not a cliche, it’s the truth.

What do you feel has made you different in an entertainment age of commercial repetition?
What makes me different is that I’m not too concerned the “expectation” or the “trend” of the current time, every 6 months seems like a new “trend” starts, a certain type of sound in beats or a certain type of pattern in rhyme. Doesn’t excite me for real. This is self-expression you know, I feel as though if I bring myself in raw, brutally honest manner, I’m good with it. Whichever type of production, whether the production is “commercial” or not, I’m a do me on it. What does “commercial” mean anyhow? It’s all sound you know, people love to label and dehumanize, but its flesh and blood in the studio manipulating sounds at the end of the day. So I feel as though when I step in that booth, it’s gonna get “real” for that moment in time. I’m true school, I’m a flava that sauce you feel me. I’m a evolve as the inspiration comes to me. When I get that feeling and it hits me I’m a do just that. I’m not gonna over think or second guess myself, and at this point of my career I don’t even have the time or luxury to second guess. I’m inside the pressure cooker. I’ve had many songs on blogs and on the Net 5 minutes after they were laid, fresh out the oven. Once song is done, on to the next thing and so on. It’s fun like that though, I can’t even front.

12 months from now where do you picture yourself?
I see the NDL movement having grown in numbers and having spread on a more global level. I picture more doubters turning into believers and converts. I see stubborn non-believers starting to looking more musty and shedding a few pounds lol. More bangers shot out the speakers 12 months from now for sure like meteor showers.

What artist has had the biggest influence on you?
That’s a tough question. As a whole, I think my answer would be the Wu-Tang Clan. Just from their sword     style, the different techniques they brought to the table. They immersed you into their own world, like an urban kung-fu flick. That still messes my head up till this day champ. They kept it all the way raw and all the way real. That was Hip-Hop, didn’t sound like anything out there. Gave my generation inspiration that we didn’t have to follow trend, just do the dopest, wildest joints that came to mind and its all good. You don’t have to be corny to be heard. That’s an important jewel they gave me.

Plans for 2012??
Drop massive science on these beats. I’m searching the four corners of the earth for the dopest instrumental   to lace these bars to. Just keep dropping meteors until the ground cracks. My plan is to destabilize things, shake things up a little. My plan is the give y’all my truth. I want to visit some pyramids this year. Eat more kiwis. Scratch that, that ain’t a plan, I would be doing that anyhow. I just wanna live this year you heard. I appreciate yall for real. Stay blessed. Shout out to the human, animal and plant race.

How to conduct the perfect media interview by Brandon Countee

Interviews are a constant  and very important occurrence for small business owners, entertainer and athletes. They are important because they represent a unique way to interact with possible clients, fans and the media in general. Here are five key tips to help you ace interviews with the media.

1.       The media is not your friend.
Journalists have a job to do and what they report must be accurate, fair and balanced. Even if they are your friend, remember they are at work when it comes to the interview.

2.              that even if they are your friend they are at work when it comes to the interview.
terviews with the media.2.        teract with Have an objective
Approach all interviews with a goal and a key message that you want the interviewer to leave with.  Plan ahead and be prepared for the difficult questions. Make sure at the end of the interview that you convey your message. Learn the interviewer's first name and address them by their first name. This makes the meeting warm and caring.

3.       Control the interview
The interviewer never will just ask the right questions. After you answer the question steer the conversation to what you want to get across. Don’t sit back and wait for them to ask the question you are waiting for.

4.      Be prepared for questions
Be prepared for certain questions to arise. Try to find out what topics the interviewer wants to ask before the interview.

5.       Your look
What you wear and your body movements are the MOST important part of a video or broadcast interview. The importance of the look is too long to put in one simple blog but I will give this: Never wear a white shirt. Choose a light blue or a green shade to not seem boring or stale. Your tie should be muted and your suit a dark solid color. Avoid large flashy accessories as they can detract from your overall look.

Importance of Marketing for your business

If 2011 showed companies anything to be remembered, it should be that marketing and all of its many facets is a growing importance for success. Whether it is a small business or a large corporation with offices internationally,  how they are marketed to potential and existing consumers is becoming a bigger fish to catch each year.

For profit companies are built for one thing: Profit. Many of the clients we work with at Majestic Raven Entertainment have expectations and we stay commited to providing the best quality marketing and public relations management that will be a driving force for the success and longevity of their business.

If you dont have time to manage and control your advertising or you dont have the expertise hire a public relations firm to assist with marketing your business. The one problem that dooms a business from the start is what I call gourging business model.

The GBM for short is a model that many business have where everyone within the company is multitasking constantly on everything witht their business from accounting, management, human resource and payroll. The problem is that usually the person who is responsible for hiring the next cook for their restaurant is also responsible for insuring that the marketing duties are also taking care of even though they have very little knowledge of marketing or creating PR campaigns. Wanting to save a little by doing it yourself can actually add stress and be the ultimate downfall of your business.

I consulted with a music label years ago who had problem getting their clients concert shows and interviews. After one day of sitting with them I quickly observed the problem: The music producer was also the marketing manager and booking agent for the whole company and their artist! When I presented the idea that they should hire both an agent and publicist the quick response was that "The problem isnt that we need help, we just need to get some shows. We have a facebook,Myspace and Website. The marketing is done. We just need to get in front of some promoters."

Unsuprisingly the company dissolved 8 months later. But I think that story was important because it has an theme that currently occurs with a small business: Not knowing your needs and or limitations when it comes to starting a business.

It is impertitive that managers and owners realize that a lot of the success for companies comes from being able to utilize skills and strentghs that are not their own but available to them.
